This work, which analyses the homes of Galician emigrants in Brazil and their influence on the vernacular architecture itself, is fundamentally based on image. But not an image devoid of content, and with a simple aesthetic value, but as a means of expression of a part of our history. A reflection that reaches in some way the deepest sensations of those who read and see this book, their imagination, and their understanding, with which to build a discourse capable of making those who have not yet done so discover a way of being, of building and of inhabiting a part of our society.
Emigrants who in the midst of an environment of search for a better economic way of life were unconsciously absorbing the cultural complexes that surrounded them, among which emerged new forms and colors, foreign at first but later would make their; with the constant as well as geographically close architectural solutions in the case of the Architecture made by Galician emigrants in Brazil. Since what they saw in the host country was in many occasions Portuguese Architecture, a bordering country that they generally did not know and therefore also and its architecture. The Galician who emigrated there registers that set of architectural elements and typologies that he later moved to his home in Galicia, without being aware of that marvellous transvazo of architectures, of that coming and going of construction techniques from the neighbouring country. It is also about architectures that, still contaminated by this exotic touch, which takes us through imagination in a subtle way to distant worlds, were able to avoid confronting the already existing architectures.
